Jude's Book List

The day we found out that we were having a boy, I gave up the hope of reading Anne of Green Gables to the little one and began considering what would be the best start in literature for a little boy. It only took a few minutes to decide that Jude's first book would be To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. And thus, it is already in the basket by the couch waiting to be read over the next few months.

I felt instinctively that I should begin to read some sort of boy book in preparation for his arrival, but confess that I have indeed been reading Anne's House of Dreams instead. Anne is pregnant, so we have a lot in common once more. Nonetheless, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn have been haunting my thoughts. Beyond that, I've been at a loss.

Thankfully, our friend in Mississippi, who has impeccable taste when it comes to children's literature, shipped a box full of books to Jude this week.

He included The Lion and the Mouse, a wordless illustrated book that gives parents a bit of creative freedom...

A stack of classics...from which I've already begun reading Five Children and It by E. Nesbit...

And an absolutely amazing pop up book illustrating The Chronicles of Narnia.

Jude might have to grow into that one:)

OOOoooo, Swiss Family Robinson is one of our favorites!! Don't leave out Journey to the Center of the Earth :) Also, the Shueys introduced us to Andrew Petersons adventure series. We're part way through On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness. Wonderful stuff for little boys :D

(Saw you with your big ol' belly across the sanctuary last week :) LOVE IT!!)
